1970s Crewel Embroidered Skirt and Shawl, Size S/M, Waist 28.5"

Hand embroidered wool crewel stitching on wool in an elaborate floral design.  This is a stunning piece of work and most likely a one of a kind outfit made for the previous owner (Marmie (Margaret) Hess) who was an entrepreneur/art dealer here in Calgary.  The design is worked in cream coloured wool on a brick red background that is a natural fibre, perhaps cotton or cotton/wool blend, and is fully lined with a crisp taupe coloured fabric.  The skirt is constructed without a waistband and has a side zipper and soft pleats at the front of the waist. The skirt has quite a bit of fullness through the hip.  The matching shawl is of the same fabric and fibres and has no closure but is intended to be worn around the shoulder and tucked under the arm or it would also look great belted with a leather belt.  We have styled it with a beautiful Italian Merino wool sweater from another listing and a pair of boots that also belonged Marmie Hess and could have indeed been worn with this outfit.  It is an outstanding outfit, expertly made and in very good, clean condition.
